While you folks have been working today, I've been basically wasting my day preparing to make my donations for the year. The bright side of this, of course, is that I get to with y'all (which sorta makes up for the drudgery). I basically save all the snail mail I get during the year from the charities/non-profits I donate to. Then, I sift through it. Things were a little tight last year, and I couldn't do my usual sifting, so this is about two years worth of solicitations.
The four garbage bags below are filled with letters, envelopes, and assorted crapola that I get during the year. The letters on the floor... Well, you can see that it is FOCKing ridiculous.
BTW, I thinned this down to 45 (it started over 60, I think, when I took the pic). I couldn't make a meaningful contribution to that many.
Wow! I started donating money and I got absolutely FLOODED with mail asking for donations, now I donate to people collecting I don't send anything by mail
I've never trusted any organization to properly disburse my donations, so I've always done it myself. I've got issues with United Way, so I stay far away from them.
Rob, well, I guess I do exactly the opposite. Anyone calls me, I tell 'em to put it in mail and I hang up. I just like to have the time to mull through this stuff and pick and choose.
Donating to 45 organizations directly is painful, but at least I only do it once a year. Of course, the piles of solicitations are ridiculous.
