Heck, if I was still living in FL I could get you all the Florida and Longnose Gar you could stand! I've never seen an alligator gar IRL, as they are native to TX and LA. The Florida ones are a nuisance, though I know the Seminoles and Miccosukee Indians eat them.
I've been out fishing in the grassy flats around Estero and Pine Islands near Ft. Myers, and wasted an entire morning's worth of bait catching nothing but gar. They lie near the surface, so our bait would barely touch the water before we'd hook one. We cut them into strips, then go to deeper water and use the strips as bait for reds, snappers, and larger jacks (amber or crevalle).
