Apparently, Chazmo, I tried double clutching upshifts, and it feels different from just shifting without double clutching. The shifter consistently goes into gear smoothly, vs when I don't double clutch, where it's sometimes smooth and sometimes "clunky." Is that you experience too, Charlie?
Well, Jack, I think the difference is speed of engagement... When you "single" clutch (or "granny shift", as the F&F crowd like to say), you're using the synchromesh gears to slow down the gear shaft. Try applying gentle pressure against the gear gate, and then pushing it in. Another alternative is to rev-match while you're shifting. I used to feel that clunk mostly when shifting into 3rd (and of course being unable to downshift to 1st without rev-match).
When you double clutch, you're taking quite a bit more time before actually shoving the shifter into the gear, and you're also getting the shafts at the right speed by rev-matching (well, you should be).
Have fun, Jack. You're not hurting anything with clunky shifts, you're just creating some small amount of wear on the synchromesh.
