What is string theory, and why are people talking about the replacement theory?

String theory, overly-simplified for the sake of this thread, is the idea that the stuff that stuff is made of; that is to sub-atomic particles, and particles-of-particles, exist finitely in 1 dimensional planes.

M-theory, overly-simplified (again), states that there must be several string theories governing several dimensions. At present, 11 dimensions seems to be the magic state of stuff.

How can you detect a dimension? If dimensions intersect how are they separate?

Without trying to dredge up more math than I immediately understand (or care to understand);

Often.

Wiki? More often than that.

Wicky? Not often enough.

Well Raj, given what I know of your life and your lifestyle, this could be due to any number of things:

1. Long work hours under harsh artificial lighting.

2. Complicated work around noxious chemicals.

3. Scotch. Lots of Scotch.

4. Self-induced stress over present economic conditions. . . and scotch.

5. As I think we had discussed before, sinus stress from the changing of the seasons and the related humidity changes.
