IIRC, you have to book 180 or 365 days before your date online. Chances are always slim you'll even get them with that much advance notice. I have a friend from HS who always got Kirby Cove (Marin headlands) for years. Then, starting a few years ago, it became a complete crapshoot.

NOT everyone SHOWS up when they reserve a site and some may claim 2-3 nights and decide to vacate early, I'm gonna have my San Marcos right next to Carlsbad
go inquire how they release such sites..... maybe you just luck out if you pull in when they've had a cancelation and you can nab it that day
