Tropical storm Ophelia headed out to sea
MIAMI, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Tropical storm Ophelia continued to weaken Friday as it moved slowly toward the north-northeast and away from the U.S. mainland.
Forecasters warned however the storm may make a loop out in the Atlantic and head toward Florida.
The storm, with sustained winds of 65 mph, could become a hurricane again in a day or so, the National Hurricane Center said. It was located Friday morning 115 miles east of Daytona Beach, Fla.
Forecasters warned of possibly dangerous rip currents along the Atlantic coasts of Florida and the Carolinas.
The storm became the seventh hurricane of the busy 2005 Atlantic season Thursday night but weakened overnight back to tropical storm status.
The five-day forecast from the hurricane center shows Ophelia moving out to sea over the weekend, then making a loop Monday that changes its direction from east to west and puts it on a path toward the east coast of Florida.
