another thought, I've actually worked (real life paying work ) on a G4 with the dual procs and older cinema screen, maybe a year ago or so, cutting edge then. It really wasn't that amazing. The processor was still slower than my 1200 at the time, and the screen had quite a low res, 1200 or 1024 I think, while at the time I was running 1600x1200 on my 22" NEC...... which I don't have anymore 
I was working in lightwave (3D) on both the Mac and the PC, and this crap about macs being faster clock for clock is exactly that........ it crashed alot too

Yeah Wicky you are correct. I know Apple uses the large LCD manufacturer in Taiwan whose names slips me right now 
But I know a lot of the Pee-Cee makers use them as well!
In terms of the desktop LCD's from Apple I do hear many great things about them (Color, quality, price points for size, etc) and this is from multi-platform peeps. not just Mac lemmings like me
One caveat I know they use a newfangled connector on their new LCD's
Oh and how they stay profitable is somewhat correctcharging for design and innovation and the brand recognition similar to other small market niche players who are able to succeed in "low price" markets...ie Whirlpool, Starbucks, BMW, etc
