My friend and I are going to learn to snowboard and today we went to look at pants and stuff like that. What should we look for when buying pants? I know we want breathable water proof, but beyond that, we're not really sure. Help!
waterproof..for sure.. make sure that it has elastic at the bottom. my oakley ones and burton ones both had it where i could fit the pants over the boot so it would keep water from coming up the boot.
also, depends on how cold it gets there, but some pants have more padding than others. i don't know much mobility is a factor for you, but my snowboard pants are pretty thin... if it's really cold, i'll layer up (ie: flannel pants, sweatpants, etc..)...
check
here for some snowboard pants. i don't know how serious you plan to get into it, but these are great pants. i don't know if burton is the route you want to go, but the site shows some features of the pants and you should be able to find similar features from other mfg. i know that my oakley pants have knee guards built-in..which is great, not just because i fall
but because if i'm waiting for someone to come down and i'm in the slope, i always sit on my knees.
anyway, that's all the rambling i can do... i think that as long as it is comfortable, waterproof, and is able to keep you relatively warm (maybe some vent pockets would be good too), you should be ok. good luck
PS. when you learn to snowboard, make sure you learn how to fall. in other words, don't try to break your fall with your hands.. your wrists will not like you very much.
