Default ATTN Raptor! I need your genius!

Well actually I need your experience but you can claim genius.

I was watching a Nova about the JSF competition between Lockheed and Boeing. The canopies all have a sort of jigsaw puzzle construction. Why is that?

My theories are a) To absorb the expansion contraction of the material b) To prevent irregularities in the material caused by stretching when moulding the convex shape.

So what is it?

I'll have you know I am an recognized expert in Japanese street fashion. BTW, the F/A22 Raptor can run circles around the Joint Strike Fighter.

I don't know much about next generation fighter cockpit design or configuration.

I would guess it has to do with the stealth properties of the materials used and minimization of the radar signature. Just a guess.

Thanks for your guess. It seems as good as any. I'm puzzled.

Oh well.

Larger piece count jigsaw puzzles cost more! This IS a governmental contract right?
