I'm a firm believer in honesty being the most critical aspect of a good relationship. If I 
up (pretty common), I think it's better just to admit it and hope your partner understands. Lying just makes it worse - not only did I up, but now I'm lying to cover it up. Not good.
With the age one, she was so pent up over being almost 30 (and 5 years older than me) that lying seemed ok... but if she can lie about that for 6 months, what else is "ok".
