Default Big Bear, Orion the Hunter, and the Quake.

We were in Big Bear (an LA mountain resort at 7,000 feet) Friday and Saturday nights. Did some great Astronomy with the scope. Orion Nebula is the best deep sky object and only visible in Winter. 5.4 earthquake at 4:19 AM Saturday scared the bejesus out of us. A big screen TV chained to a shelf bolted to a wall broke the chain and flew 15 feet, face down on the floor. (It worked when we plugged it in.)

And The Fat Bastard. I forgot to mention The Fat Bastard. I't a French Chardonnay that's named after a British expression for "full bodied," which it's not. That was our wine of choice in Big Bear. It goes well with earthquakes.

I'm fine, James. Mrs. Raptor said "Do earthquakes follow us?" We were in Yucca Valley (high desert) when the 7.1 Hector Mine quake hit. We were supposed to be in Istanbul when the big quake hit, but changed our plans at the last minute (forfeiting a big deposit), and saw the solar eclipse from Munich instead. We were supposed to see it from Dyarbakir in SE Turkey, but Fodor's said "Don't go to Kurdistan, the Kurds are shooting, blowing up, robbing, and kidnapping tourists." Then the Turks captured Ocalan. Mrs. Raptor said "I ain't goin to Turkey."
