Do you really believe in 12 hours they couldve evacuated over 30,000 people, if not more?
I appreciate your point but yes they could have BUT only with a plan and the lack of plan or coordination prevented this.

A highway can reasonably handle 1 car per per second per lane. Normal commutes handle more than that. If cars had an average of 3 people per and the highway has only two lanes that's 21,000 people per hour.

J you're dead on with the idea that not everyone could evacuate themself. It's really the poor that are left behind. There are tourists barricaded in hotels too. What THEY are doing there I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

The issue in the end is the plan. Offering to transport people if they have no means to do so themselves is no good if the people don't have confidence or don't hear the message. Another aspect is the education of the real danger.

Today I'm watching the National guard come in and evacuate and bring supplies. This is what should have happened on Mon or Tues. They didn't need to wait for the waters to recede. They are using amphibious vechicles.

In comments on Thursday, President George W. Bush said, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees."

The National Guardsmen being taken from Iraq and put in NO are really going from war to war......except instead of fighting insurgents, they are fighting their fellow Americans.....how sad is that?

It's very sad Sophia.

Though I will say that had they been deployed Sunday, they wouldn't have armed militias to contend with - they could focus on helping those that need aid. Very sad all around.
