Can you believe this WorldCom nightmare?
Greed and selfishness I guess. I only just read about what is going on from another thread so. I feel for the people who will be seriously affected by this, both directly and indirectly. Sounds like it has the potential to be a whole lot of people too.
Greed is taking over everything! People are too greedy and too happy to take the profits without looking into the reality of the situation.
A similar thing happened a few years in the banking industry when Nick Leeson brought down Barings. All of the people that we supposed to be in charge of him were so blinded by the amounts of money he seemed to be making them, that they didn't bother to take a step back and aks HOW he was making so much money!
It seems to me today that people are doing the same thing in big industry. They aee these huge profits and amazing figures and are happy to believe them since it makes them a lot of money. People need to stand back and take a look at more of these companies and ask "does it seem too good to be true?", because if it does, it usually is !!!!!
Sorry, much too serious for the Corner ....
oink oink

The thing that amazes me is the complete disregard for the lives that it affects as a result of there actions and also the complete lack of responsibility for there actions
The big tragedy that we seem to hear little about is the domino effect that these situations have on small businesses which survive off the larger corporations.
Dammit now my brain hurts from the seriousness

To me, it was obvious that WorldCom was an arrogant, stupid company that deserved to die. It's no different than United Airlines or Verizon, except that WorldCom didn't have the clout to get bailed out by the government.
The real outrage is that shitty airlines like United do a shitty job of security and maintenance and cut every corner possible and then get a billion dollar "loan" from the government.
Plus, the retards at Andersen and the other Big 5's are too busy brown-nosing clients to notice that they have ethical restrictions.
I work with these companies all the time. Their suckiness is directly related to the quality of people that they hire -- they run a messy ship, with pathetic leadership and a bunch of uneducated, undisciplined 9 to 5er's that don't give a damn about their job and only want to play golf and eat noodle salad at the godamn country club.
Anyone that leaves work at 5PM everyday and never works weekends is a ****ing fraud, since they can't possible be getting anything meaningful done. If I ran a company, I'd fire every last useless cubicle drone and run my shit like a special forces unit. I'd give people incentives for getting good stuff done, instead of slipping out the back door to go buy some new golf clubs and then having a "meeting" over noodle salad with the corrupt scumbag salespeople from some other ****ed company.
Having said that, there *are* big companies that do a nice job.
