Carvana
I’d say the difference is Carvana and Carmax aren’t trying to screw you over. Dealers know what to look for and don’t, and don’t care.
We looked at a CPO Volvo at one dealer last week, clean carfax and CPO but the right side had been repainted. When I mentioned it to the dealer they simply responded that it has a clean carfax and CPO. We walked away.
Carvana has the 7 day policy, that would give me more peace of mind than the shady dealers.

Yeah think you take your chances either way honestly but in the end YOU & only YOU need to be happy and or satisfied with the car and or deal you made
