I never had a use for one until auto-integration of the iPod became feasible. By that point it was too late...I already have a 6 disc DVD/Cd changer AND a 6 disc .mp3 changer AND a HU that plays .mp3s AND XM Radio.....not that I dont like overkill, just have not purchased an iPod yet 
I am sure you could integrate the iPod with the dash control though. Especially with the Alpine iPod interface thingy.

I agree from the perspective that it is a decent button alright but why is it so different from the others? I mean it effectively does the same thing... especially the "channel" button.
