Zoe, you have a good eye! But not that good... It's a 1.1-liter industrial engine. There was a 1.3- and 1.5- and 1.6-liter model which was used in the '60s and '70s Cortinas, Capris, and Festiva/Fiesta. It was nothing more than a bore/stroke deal. The 2.3 was the same block, but had the same-side (intake/exhaust) head and sideways-mount distributor.

What do you mean Mil-spec? Military?

The engine is out of a mid-'80s Jacobsen ride-on mower with hydrostatic drive.
