Face Book
I had a client who was convinced she had a relationship with a famous actor through his Insta. The crap he said was unbelievable. Another one I hate is guys pretending to be military to scam you.
One strategy I have on Insta is to never like a post on an account that’s not a real life friend (especially pages with lots of followers). I’m certain people just go through the list of “likers” and send them all requests in the hopes one or two will bite.

They've been owned by Facebook now. It's not a new thing. I'd drop Instagram as well if it weren't for the fact that there is content in there that I actually like. Facebook can stay gone forever as far as I am concerned. I did keep messenger but one day they reset everything and since I couldn't remember my password, I just dumped that part of it as well.
I think they take advantage of the high esteem placed on military folks. It starts out as the guy being very complimentary then eventually gets to a place where they ask for money. They say they’re deployed but going on leave and they need money for a plane ticket home/to meet you (first red flag - in the Canadian military at least they pay for your flight). A girlfriend of mine used to be in the Canadian military and one of these scammers contacted her. She talked to folks she knows in the US military. Turns out there was no longer a base where he said he was…so she messed with him until he gave up.

Made the mistake of briefly going back on fb. Among the handful of posts I saw, one was a vitriolic discussion in a local group about how supposedly heartless local vets are to not take this person's emergency case. There was another uninformed post about the unhoused folks in our community and that's when I closed my browser.
