Thanks to the coppers and the gumshoes of the day, these eggs usually ended up in the big house, or in a Chicago overcoat.

Chocolate syrup, not honey, is the preferred condiment used in black-and-white movies to mimic human blood. Hitchcock used it in Psycho's famous shower scene.
I'm guessing both may be used and they just wanna be right
& the actors that I've scene playing Norman @ the part on the Universal Tram Ride are
