Many U.S. presidents were born outside of the continental United States: George Wahsington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson.

I said in my caveat that "as long as you stick to geography and not when the states were founded" it was true. Obviously, like I said, these questions are starting to be written in a Trivial Pursuit manner where one's interpretation of "is" can change the answer.
Washington was born in northern Virginia before Virginia was a state. That land area is absolutely part of the continental United States.
