No, they're passing through 4 borders to get to and from school. It's technically the same border every time, but from a legal perspective the Canadian border and the American border are distinct. In fact one of the borders they'd be crossing, Blaine, actually has a neutral zone where you can visit friends/family without crossing the border.

Think of it this way - how many times would they need to show their passport to get to school? Twice. Once to the Canadians in Delta, and once to the Americans at Blaine. To get home, they'd show it to the Canadians at Surrey, and the Americans at Point Robert.

My bad. I didn't actually look at a map but had a good idea of the area. The part I missed is that the school is in Blaine. I just assumed it was kinda like the Hyder/Stewart border area. Buuuuut given it's in a more populated area, it makes sense that it's not.
