A referendum question which appeared on a 1993 ballot in San Francisco gave voters the chance to decide whether or not police officer Bob Geary would be allowed to patrol while carrying his ventriloquist's dummy called Brendan O'Smarty.

Not " real " Smurfs, but a family called the Fugates, known as the " Blue People of Kentucky," did live in Kentucky during the 1800's. A genetic condition called merhemoglobinemia < was SO tempted to edit that GLOOB :-) concentrated within the small community was the cause. In this family " blue " was normal!
