The only way you can be successful as a driver is to have rich parents. Talent is probably 3rd most important behind that and good looks.

I only fell down on the rich parents bit, but I still didn't make it

Not true. I can name several drivers who came from modest means. You might say they aren't successful enough for you but I say if you make it to the show then you've succeeded big time.

What do you mean by 'modest means' Jed?

My parents couldn't afford $300 for me to play in the upper soccer program... much less thousands of dollars for a go-kart and transporting me all around to race. Any way you slice it, it is a sport that heavily favors kids from affluent families.

It's still on.

I never did see if Duece Eight agreed to the terms though, I might have missed it.

She wouldn't know how - she's a driver, not a mechanic.

I was going to rant about what it takes to make the big time, but I'm too Or not enough.

Modest like: Scott Goodyear grew up near me. He lived in the same neighbourhood and went to the local schools. This was not affleunt by any means. Personally I wore hand me down hockey gear and played in the loacl leagues (cheap). I paid for my own education cuz the $$ wasn't there. ( sad eh? )

He just worked at the track to pay his way.

Memo Gidley grew up on a fishing boat and worked with his Dad. I think he didn't have much at all.

The sport DOES favour money drivers. There are a LOT of drivers to illustrate your point (Paul Tracy's dad used to pull his go-cart with his Rolls) but there are many who did it on there own.

Hats off to them.
