Yeah, he and Robbie Buhl are two of the way cool guys to come out of FA. Frank Freon, Paul Tracy are another two that come to mind, but all I remember about FF is him breaking stuff.

I'm pretty sure Robbie still owns a Ford dealership in/near Indy.

FA was a fantastic proving grounds in the 90's Awesome in fact.

Tracy was so agressive in that series. Greg Moore was another dominant force in that series.

I think SS could be the next American F1 champ, that's what I think.

Very

I've only seen a couple races of his on Speed. Is he slated to move up to F1 next year and what team (s) do you think are interested in him?

Honestly, I've been to to pay attention to contracts, but I was under the impression he's contracted to Red Bull next year, too

With Red Bull owning the remants of Jaguar, I see that as the only logical route for Scott to get into F1.

Though with Honda owning a bigger and bigger share of BAR, I can see them being interested in an American driver to compliment Sato (as Button will almost surely leave).

You can run Spec Miata a lot cheaper than that.

You've come to a different conclusion looking at the same data. If Scott was established in karts anytime between the ages 13-17 (and he was) he could have tried to qualify in the Red Bull (or Players) as many as 4 times.

I think that does mean that money isn't going to be a big differentiator there and if I'm not mistaken I'd say that's what Red Bull is trying to do... take the money out of the equation as much as possible and look for raw talent.
You can run a lot of different forms of racing "on the cheap" but they generally don't yield good exposure.

I think the exceptions are karting (If you can afford to started early, before 12 at the latest) and sprint/midgets. You can be competitive in 600cc sprints on about $10,000/year (with a $10,000 car up front), and into the V8 midgets for about twice that. Both are places where there are people looking for talent, and where the advantages of a more money do not always yield better results. You need talent to win at either.

And to be competitive in Spec Miata nationally, expect to spend $50k/year

Yep. That's one of the perks of Open wheel dirt racing - you can stay in one region (either CA or IN basically) and get good exposure. Greatly reduces your traveling expenses. When my friend was trying to get me into 600/1200 CC sprints, we looked into Indiana and I could have raced 6 nights a week for 5 months of the year without every traveling more than 3 hours. And if you live in Indy that number is 2 hours.
