I'll need to jackhammer out the concrete foundation around the couch, remove the couch with a backhoe, jackhammer out more concrete, perform exploratory excavation until it appears that all impacted soil has been removed, cover the spoils pile with Visqueen plastic sheeting, collect soil samples from the excavation sidewalls and bottom, send the samples to a state-certified analytical laboratory for analysis by EPA Method 418.1 for total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons (TRPH), EPA Method 8260B for aromatic and chlorinated hyrocarbon volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and by EPA Method 8080 for polychlorinated byphenals (PCBs), repeat the above (if necessary) until all remaining soil is beneath Regional Water Quality Control Board remediation thresholds, transport under manifest and dispose of the couch and soil, backfill the excavation with clean imported fill material, compact, repave, and submit the final report.
