looks familiar... is that the same you took me on several years ago when you put a rock chip in the VMOM

if so thats some purdy scenery
The drive we went on was only 15 miles between 'pins' 5 and 7. It's the Calaveras Canyon drive. Now picture the drive only nine times longer and reaching up to the Lick Observatory on the top of Mount Hamilton as well as wine country in Livermore.

Sounds like a good drive, John. Hopefully no.
Only a couple in the whole 135 miles. They're not likely to catch you speeding if you have a radar detector. There's little chance for going too fast. For instance look at this...
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&sadd...017777,0.047035

and this...
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&sadd...017774,0.047035

That's the approach to the summit and the beginning of the descent but it's all pretty nutty.

Average speed is a pretty slow 35 but I wouldn't do that drive much faster. Amazingly windy and huge drop offs with now guard rails in many spots.

A total gas George. You'd love it. Plus the added extra of getting to go in the Lick and seeing the 36: refractor. *Still* the second largest refractor in the world

Well we might want to wait until it's warmer and drier anyway. At the top of Mt Ham there was snow. On the way down which is the shady side oft he mtn there was water and possibly ice. I was taking it very easy there. If we wait until May I think it would be nearly perfect.

BTW... you'll note I did the start/finish point as a parking lot (used for carpool). That would be a good place to rally and meet up unless we wanted to use a breakfast place.
