The techs weren't union because they had too good of a deal on their own. THe cast never organized because they were too dis-orgaized. Not to mention they weren't that talented. The ones who were talented moved on to better careers. I really don't know how many shows are union, but it depends on the hotel. If its non-union, you have to know someone to get your foot in the door. I've never dealt with IATSE, so I have no opinion of them-good or bad. I have had bad experiences with other unions though, and it makes me wary of unions altogether. Any hotel the Steve Wynn owned was non-union (Bellagio, Mirage, T.I., Golden Nugget) had non-union entertainment, but I'm not sure about the other hotels

 

IATSE is good for us in Hollywood....They help us keep the Producers cocks out of our bungholes...which they are constantly probing....

If your not union in Hollywood they will gladly work you to death...20 hr days not uncommon (MTV vids, commercials....The union saved my ass...

 

For Instance we have a 8 hr guarantee....Which means I get paid for 8 hrs., regardless of the time actually spent working...Sometimes just show up, Fluff and Puff, walk in two and paid for eight...
