That was totally a thing when I was living in Ontario and I guess assumed it was at least a national thing. At this time of year I barely use electricity anyway. It's still light out at 9:30pm and the house gets a lot of natural light.

We're encouraged (and incentivized) to not use energy from 5p-9p here, more than likely to get around what's called the, "Duck Curve" in solar energy:
