How long should a CV joint last?

Apparently, my CV joint is failing.

My car has 36K miles. It's never been tracked. No tears in the boot. I know people who push their car harder than me and have also tracked their car. They don't have this problem. What's the deal here? Should this be happening?

Better the CV than an axle or differential. There are a lot of factors that contribute to CV failure and I would guess that a couple years of frisky driving could wear one out that fast.

Part of it depends on how smooth a driver you are. I wear through things like that faster than the average bear because I haven't yet developed a smoothness to my driving...

It has always seemed random to me. I remember the CV joint going out in my Integra around 30k miles ... but I don't think I ever replaced one on my Accord (120k miles). I'm sure if you post in Under the Hood you'll get a lot of technical answers.

Thanks. I've already got some printed threads of others with this problem. I called Honda today and am taking a manager for a ride this afternoon.

True Josh...true. In actuality, I've only put 19K on the car myself and the lady before me didn't drive the car very hard. I know that from the numbers of tires she went through.

Personally, I've never owned a car with a CV joint before now. I guess I can say that I've never had one fail on me! Woo-Hooo!
