If you had to buy the tickets, would you still get grandstand seats? I'm thinking I'm most likely going to walk around and watch different spots on the course.

Not sure... I've been to Champ (/CART, IndyCar) races at: Portland, Vancouver, Toronto, Michigan Speedway and Laguna Seca and other series at about 4 more tracks. IMHO you *need* grandstand tix at a speedway or short oval but at a road course (like Portlan) they're quite optional. At a Street course (like Toronto, Vancouver or San Jose) I'm split. I've done both and both have their plusses.

I might say get grandstand so you can have *both* experiences... the grandstand seat and the walk-around-different-spots experience. The paddock pass is a must especially if you've not been to an open wheel race before.
