Now I can both see and shoot the 8/21 total solar eclipse in Salem. OR through my big scope. We've seen and shot total and annular* solar eclipses in Roundup, MT, Cabo San Lucas, Catalina Island, Aruba, Munich, Puerto Vallarta, and St. George, UT. St. George in 2012 was the first time we saw the eclipse through the big scope because it was the first one we drove to. Tremendous difference! Now I can shoot with the big scope. I'm really jacked!!!
* An annular eclipse (annulus is Latin for ring) occurs when the moon is further away relative to the distance to the sun and the moon's disc doesn't completely cover the sun's disc. You see a slender ring of the sun and the corona, the sun's atmosphere isn't visible.
