II Stereo related ?'s
Mom.It could be a few things, as mentioned direct sunlight does bother it. Also, has the IR sensor been moved at all? Try pulling it out a little more and check the area around the wire to make sure its not broken. It could possibly be pinched. All the Modifry unit is doing is acting like your wireless remote. The next time it doesnt work, try the remote to make sure its not the radio having issues.
Hope that helps.
#1 - you could cut a hole in the door
#2 - i had hd radio in my truck before i got my S. i paid $300 for the tuner and early on there were only about 5 stations, none of which i listened to very much. later on there were a couple of stations that i would listen to and it sounded good when there was reception. sometimes i would drive in areas where there would be an analog signal but no digital signal. the tuner had 3 modes: analog, digital, and auto. analog mode meant that i wasn't using the tuner at all, digital mode would work fine unless i ventured out of coverage area or wanted to listen to an analog only station, and hybrid mode would auto switch but i could hear a delay because digital has to cue a few seconds before it plays. i liked the display on my radio of the song and artist. my unit didn't support multicasting, so the digital channel was the same as the analog channel. the new tuners support multicasting, which is like 2-3 separate sister channels per station that you can listen to, often commercial free. so for example you'd have to spend about $200 for an hd-radio ready alpine deck that supports multicasting and another $200 for the actual alpine hd-radio tuner
in my S i've elected to stay with the stock stereo to avoid dropping a small fortune into a new setup. i paid a pretty penny for the factory XM radio module and i pay satellite subscription fees but now i hardly run into any commercials and the radio only cuts out in tunnels or tight twisties, when i should be enjoying my exhaust note or concentrating on staying alive

It's okay to listen to more than one mom.
