My tires are already toast from 6 track days so I'm hoping the auto-x will finish them off and then we can mount the new s02's. We'll probably get a second set of rims & some race tires before too long. I just hope the last vestiges of tread hold up okay for me - the middles of the tires are still looking fine, but you're right, the edges are toast!

Hmmmm, you must have a) run lower pressures or b) be on much more abrasive surfaces or c) be competing in much higher temperatures. I've run 4 events on my S02's and other than the rears turning to almost slicks, they look fine. If you're spending the money for extra wheels, why not run Hoosiers or Kumho's?

Thx! John Stinson, who doesn't post here, finished 2nd in his S, so it was a 1-2 sweep by the S2k's

Good job, Martin!

My first run was a 55 something, and my best run was 50.4 something - so it was incredibly gratifying to make such big leaps. I'd imagine it just gets harder after that, where you're just trying to better your times by 10ths or 100ths of a second. A cart was running and it did 38 seconds ... the best car times were 43 by a pair of Corvettes. There were only 2 other s2000s there, both were pretty good - 46's or so.

Had one spectacular spin - literally the exact same thing I did at Pahrump - although this time I only mashed down cones rather than nearly smashing a concrete wall. I realized that I start getting too excited when I'm doing well and I give it too much throttle exiting the turn ... so major throttle oversteer. Then it's hard to correct and then next thing I know >>WHAM<< the rear end is going around, and around, and around....

I felt much safer on the auto-x course, but there's really nothing that compares to road courses. Still, I'm definitely going to do it again.

This was a practice session - so I got 6 runs in the morning and 6 in the afternoon. The competitions seem like kind of a bummer - only 3 runs the whole day! How can you possible get to know the course? I guess that's part of what makes it challenging, but I'd rather drive more.

Kathy - I understand your point about road courses. When I was in college I was racing my Formula Ford, and on weekends there wasn't an SCCA race, I'd put short gears in it and autocross it. The inputs and techniques are completely different between the two. Roadracing is great - I love it and had much success with it. To me, autocrossing is like qualifying - you've got to go out, get it on, and get it right immediately.

At most events we get 4 or more runs, but you're right, the seat time is not the greatest. For the money, though, it's a lot easier on my budget
