I have a feeling that if the rate were flat and there were no loopholes, the actual rate could be quite low, James. We'd have to have the numbers for the gross income of the entire country and see what percentage would be needed to provide the gov't with the same amount of money that it gets with today's ridiculously complex method.

If I'm wrong about my assumption, then you're a graduated, increasing rate would be a second relatively fair approach.

James, if I were to try to describe to you the complexity of the current US tax law, your eyes would bug out of your head. It's completely ludicrous, and the way social policy is imposed by this code is shameless!

OK, sorry for the rant. Flat taxes and complete drug legalization are my platform. Think I'll win?

I think I'm pretty supportive of your platform, Chazzy.

Brunt, I'd be honored to have your vote.

But, what I really want is an island with shitloads of hammocks and a race track.

The drug money can help fund this acquisition. A new US territory for the commander in chief!

Just think of the numbers of tax inspectores and all the beaurocracy you could save on as well .... that would lower the amount you needed to raise in the first place ...... and with the drug legalisation, you could tax that and income tax would almost drop away

I'd vote for you Charlie

(as long as you also did something about making it easier for Hong Kong resident Brits, living in Japan, trolling US websites, to get working visas ..... )

So, did anyone hear the rumor that the UK is about to become the 51st state?

Hold on .... I heard that there were already 53 states .....

51st Puerto Rico
52nd Afghanistan
53rd Iraq

Also there is no way that you could have the UK as one state .... England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland would have to be individual states unless you wanted civil war on your hands from day one ......

We figured we'd just make them individual counties. This would allow them their own identities while keeping the fighting somewhat localized...

I've also always wondered how people could refer to any war as civil??
