I'm a whole man again!
Yeah... Billy, I'm not too sure about that. We would need to compare all the ways we get screwed by our respective governments. And, true, I would imagine income, property, and posessions are taxed wildly differently by different governments.
Can we simply agree that we're all getting screwed?
100 years ago, there was no income tax in the US! Just think about that kids!!!

Florida still doesn't have income tax... that's why all the athletes live there. I've actually been thinking about forms of taxation a lot lately (
), weighing the benefits of income, property, use, and sin taxes...
And yes, we're all getting screwed some how, some way. A bit less if you're super wealthy and can afford to buy politicians to do your bidding.

New Hampshire is similar. Of course, it's chicken feed compared to the federal gov't.!
Let's face it. It's good to be super wealthy in any country. If I were a billionaire, I wouldn't care if they taxed me at 90%!
(I guess I can dream, can't I)?
Yes, we do, James. Our individual state gov'ts have the right to tax us on income (not all do), and so does our federal gov't. If you own property, than you have state and local (town) property taxes.
States have the right to tax you on sales items. I think all do. The rates vary widely (New York is 8%, bugt Massachusetts it 5%).
In Massachusetts, I have an annual tax on my automobile (they call it an excise tax). I have an annual fee to register my car. And, I have an annual fee to inspect my car.
So, sigh, it does add up.

We get taxed at the state and federal levels on income depending on where you live. Washington doesn't have income tax, but I'm actually a proponent of instituting one and lowering the sales tax somewhat...
Sorry to hear it, Brunt.
This discussion is depressing me. I work so FVCKing hard for my money, and I get nicked and dimed to death by my gov't. Sigh.
I want to buy an island with a whole shitload of hammocks, build a racetrack on it, and call it Cornerville.
