Though it's commonly used for "counterclockwise" by sequipedalians widdershins literally means in "the counter direction of" so not necessarily counterclockwise.
OTH deasil DOES mean "to the right" i.e. counterclockwise.

Should we start an "incredible facts explained" thread to explain all of the incredible facts here? That way someone can read this thread to be amazed and see if he (or she) can figure out the reason for the facts, and the just-plain-lazy can look at the other thread and save all of the energy required for vigorous head-scratching.
