Better explanation Brian since there is always so much confusion between lossy compression/lossless compression/encoding (as in wavelet) and sample rate.

I'm an imaging guy but my understanding and confirmed (I think) by what you now say, is that CDs are not lossy compressed (but are probably compressed by Huffman code) and AAC or MP3 are.

So now we're back to why I prefer to buy CDs over on-line.

I still call them 'records' or 'albums'

You should... "album" means 'a collection'. It's originally from the term for a blank book to keep a collection, an "album" which is from the latin "albus" which means 'a blank tablet'. It's come to mean the collection that is kept.
