For a few years I did lectures for kids grade 4-8 who had trouble with math. The premise was that a lot of kids in those grades who are having trouble with 'math' aren't really... they are having trouble with 'arithmetic'. I.e... they have trouble with times-tables.

Many of those kids can do more complex math like algebra and calculus. I know this to be true. I have trouble with multiplication but none whatsoever with more complex math... ONCE I FOUND OUT.

Have you ever heard of people being numerically dyslexic?

My brother-in-law is both dyslexic and numerically dyslexic ... however he has a first class honours degree in Maths!

Once you recognise a problem there are many ways to work round it.

I am slightly numerically dyslexic... and I'm an EE with honours in math. I used to have math competitions with my prof... I'd make a program and he'd try to figure out how to bust my prog... all over some Guiness.

He was a good shite... if I stumped him (even if I didn't) he'd let me use the prog in a test.

My way around it... was algebra.
