WOW, what an incredible night/day!! This had to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life I have been deep sea fishing before for Bluefish, etc, but nothing prepared me for this experience!
We left the dock at 5AM way before the sun and before you knew it we couldn't see land and cell phone reception was lost
So we cruise for two hours to the beginning of the Canyons, to an area called the Lobster Claw it is 50 miles out! I was like 50 miles, Jon told me we were going 20!!! Apparently this is a hotbed for scallops, and commercial scallop fishing boats troll this area with huge drag nets and then shuck the live scallops as they troll to keep them fresh. These boats come from all over to fish these waters for scallops, we saw two boats from North Carolina! So they shuck and throw overboard all the guts from the scallops. The Tuna love the chum from these boats and it creates quite a feeding frenzy!
After a bartering the commercial fishing guys a case of beer for some fresh scallops and some scallops guts for bait we set shop running between the scallop boats waiting for them to pull the nets up. This was so cool, just to watch these guys in action! I was amazed at how they live on these old rusty tubs of a boat for months on end!
We hooked up one nice sized Bluefin Tuna, my friend fought it for about 50 minutes before we were able to tire him out and GAFF him!
Beautiful fish between 80-90#, fresh tuna for everyone on the boat and then some
Oh and I just had to take some pics of my buds new motor upgrades for his boat! Twin Honda 4 stroke, 225HP Vtec's He loves my car, and he was quite amused when I told him he has twin S2000 engines on his boat!
He was like why are you taking pics of my motors? I told him it was for my car buds online, he LOL, he knew nothing about Vtec, I gave him a lesson!
