All my friends who have been deployed there have come back saying we are doing a good thing. And from their interactions with the actual Iraqi people and not one sided drivel being filtered through the media most of them are happy for our help.

The war is over...it's now peace keeping...just like we did in Germany after Hitler. Anyone who thought we'd be in and out had their head in the sand.

Regardless of the "other advantages" and motivations of being there....who wouldn't look for oppritunities...we all do it in our daily life on a smaller scale.

I'm not saying I agree with all the motivations...but I'm glad we are there and I can't wait to get over there.

Luke I meant no disrespect you or any of our soldiers. I do support the troops. I just cant stand the buffoon making the decisions. Clearly he had his head in the sand when he made decisions on the insurgency and a "free Iraq"

Well put... some people just can't see any good that will come out of it. I have a few friends there and I'll be damned if anyone tells me their work is entirely in vain just because they don't see eye to eye with our president. Everyone of them I've talked to says the Iraqi people are thankful for our help, it's just a handful of rebels/insurgents that are the problem. The media is to blame for the negative news/outlook that comes out of Iraq. You hardly see reports of any progress, rebuilding, progress in women's rights, etc yet see reports of bombings and attacks daily.

If we're there for the good of the Iraqi people, then why aren't we in Sudan, Ivory Coast, Congo, or any of the dozens of other countries with much worse situations than the Iraqi people faced under Saddam?

Face it - we're in Iraq for oil and W's personal vendetta. The "good guys spread democratic ideals" bullshit is just a nice bonus.
