After getting a flat tire on my bike Saturday, some 15 miles from home, I propose the following:

1) The more extra tubes I buy, the less likely I am to ever need one.

2) Planning a ride around elevation and prevailing winds is risky.

3) A guy sitting on the side of the road next to a partially disassembled bike reaps no sympathy from Indiana residents. Carry a basketball in the future.

This in a nutshell is why I gave up long bike rides.

Well, it wouldn't have been a big deal if I wasn't the weakest human alive.

I struggled with the rusty nail (which had punctured the tube 3 times and lodged itself firmly in the tire) for 15 minutes before resorting to plan B, calling for a ride.

I was looking at tubeless as well as slimed tubes, and the just of them is that they might get you home... might as well have the spare. Normally nails aren't quite that stubborn.

I usually don't get around to the rusty nail until 4 Red Bulls into an all-night nasty session.

The slimed tubes seem promising but they weigh a lot more (220g+ vs 70g for a normal tube) and make a huge mess when you get a big puncture.
