The Japanese folks certainly do have very different tastes. Sticker for instance, seems to be considered cool in general. I was given a "VTEC Inside" (a la Intel) sticker when I was in Tokyo. 
I still have it, and it is kind of cool, but I don't think I'll put it on my car.
