Load the newest version of iTunes and on the devices page click the "Restore" button. this will wipe everything off and start clean. You won't lose the stuff that's on your pc though and it will go back onto your iPod.
I do think its gettin old n gonna maybe need 2 cave n get a new one someday 
I DO have my shtuff on my puter luckily tanks though J
I had 2 learn that trick due to trying to dry the fro knockin it out

1.Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
