Well, I got back from my trip and was about to head down to the US Embassy to get my visa application in. I have all of the forms, and have them completed, I managed, eventually to get hold of someone REAL to speak to rather than a machine ..... I have to get a date for an interview by phoning on a fax capable phone and getting a letter faxed back to me with the details of the interview ....... I don't have a fwx capable phone. Our fax machines in the office are scanner types that don't have an attached phone ...... and I don't have a fax at home ..... so I ask how else I can get an appointment letter ..... there is NO other way .... must be done through a fax capable phone ....

While I am speaking to the lady she told me that I should phone to apply for my appointment on Wednesday morning at 9:30 because they are going to be adding two slots for appointments, one on Sept 16 and one on Sept 30th, and that if I don't manage to get one of these dates then the next available date is 24 October !!!!!!

The lady was in fact helpful and I didn't get anoyed with her, though I think she could hear frustration in my voice by the end of our conversation (which cost me US$15 by the way )

I sure hope that this isn't going to affect your tourist industry ....

Jeez I am f**king angry today !!!!!!!!!!

I am contacting the British Consulate in Hong Kong to see if I can get a new passport issued while I am there to get round the requirement to get a visa for the trip ..... if I can't get that issued in time, I am looking at the wrong side of a 50% chance of making the Corner Con at the moment

I have just e-mailed the British Consulate .... they say they need 5 days to issue a passport, but I have managed to get them to issue it quicker before, so I have given them my sob story and am asking if they can issue it in 3 days ..........

 

Update:

Well, I contacted the British Consulate in Hong Kong (which didn't cost me anything see us Brits ARE much better than you yanks ).

Takes them 5 days to issue a new passport, but if I can prove that I have onward travel and a need for a new passport they will TRY to get the passport issued quicker for me ......

So basically I am not going to know until the day before whether I will finally make it there, but all indications are now looking good thanks to the wonderful people at the British Consulate and no thanks you the new rules of the American's trying to stop me from visiting

Well....I'm going to take this oppritunity to announce that I'm looking into a career change. I'm going to try to become a police officer. The reason I am telling in this thread is depending on what happens.....I may or may not be able to make it myself. I expect to be there, but may not know until the date gets closer.

I don't expect to get hired on full time soon enough for it to affect the trip, but I am also trying to get into a reserve program. If I can get things worked out fast enough I will be in police academy training....which may either conflict with the dates or use up my $$$ for equipment.

Holy ***** Iuke ...... the thought of you joining the police (given some of the :420: comments around in the Corner) seems a strange thought ...... and I can't believe that after months of discussion and organising that it seems to be falling apart for everyone .....

I am still keeping my fingers crossed that we can all get there .....

 

Yeah...never thought I would be a cop. I've always had moral conflicts with it, but I have a friend who recently became a cop. I've learned that it's not at all what I thought. I even went on a 10 hour ride along with him on Sat. I've quit all of my illegal activities and the best part is that my motivation is so high I don't even crave any of it.

I don't even mind the fact I might have to sell my car because of the pay cut.

Now for the hard part....trying not to get ANY tickets....and staying motivated long enough to wait out getting hired on.
