Right now I'm clarifying. I don't own stock directly, but rather through 3 mutual funds, 1 S&P 500, 1 Mid Cap and 1 International. When I say lose money, I mean the total market value of my accounts will go down.

 

Right now is not a great time to be an investor... but it's never bad to have money in the stock market; unless a stock gets delisted, you're always going to make money in the long run. You could buy at the worst time and sell at the worst, and as long as those are a fair number of years apart you'll make money.
