The cabover we had used the pissant Navistar turbodiesel - couldn't pull itself against a stiff wind (this was when I was at Southwind & Chrysler was paying the bills). Spent many a night going across Texas watching the speed slowly drop, then 'bang' I'd go down a gear, get it back to 65 mph, slam it back up a gear, go through the same
process again.
My memory fails me, but I think the Stuart Moore truck had a big Cat motor out of a D9 - I got busted doing 110 with a full trailer going across NM in that one

I'm not all that familiar with older engines... just the newer ones.
I've driven a couple new trucks that couldn't get out of their own way, though. A Volvo 770 with a 350 HP
D12, and a 9200 of ours with a really wimpy (325?) Cummins ISM and a poorly set up autoshift (shifted at 1550 no matter the throttle position!).
