right now, what would the decent work around be?
1. DO NOT let iPhoto import your pictures
2. Make a new folder on your desktop for the album/grouping of pictures you want to import. ( the key is being prudent with your camera cards and importing the photos in somewhat like groups) Title the new folder something logical about the pics ( i.e. new Adam pics, 4.9.05 birthday party or whatnot)
3. Use the Image Capture application to import said pictures to the new folder on your desktop. You can import all...or hi-light and selectively import them.
4. Now the result is having your pics organized in folders for later keeping on your hard-drive ( I eventually move all of the folders into the pictures folder of the HD)
5. Fire up iPhoto and make the main window somewhat small and over to the left side of your screen.
6. Drag the new folder of pictures you created from your desktop onto the bottom of your folder list in the right-hand side of iPhotos window where the folders are listed.
7. iPhoto will import the whole folder and keep the name the same for you
8. DONE!
Advantages/disadvantages
Advantages:
Logical folder structure of your images on your HD.
Much easier to back up/restore if there is ever an issue...just copy your pictures folder (assuming you have moved them there).
You can still "surf" your HD for an image and not involve iPhoto if you want
Disadvantages
Takes up more HD space...since iPhoto will be remaking an image you have already imported to the HD
WoW that is my longest corner post ever! I hope it made sense

right now, makes perfect sense
thanks
I keep a folder on my desktop labeled "Newpics" this way I can then move them into iphoto (the same way) but keep the folder structure.
For example...most of my pics are either
Adam or car related (SHOCKER I KNOW!
) So why recreate a folder called Adam when iPhoto already has one and so does my pictures folder. So I import them into the desktop/new pics folder...then drag them into iphoto (into the Adam folder) Then I move the actual images from the desktop/new pics folder into the pictures/adam folder on my HD
Yes, an extra step but it WAY beats the iPhoto hierarchy!
