I keep thinkin this is my HGTV tread

You're going to want 1080p and the disc spinner should want to play at the correct frame rate.
Meanwhile in UnkeTrunkieville, I'm contemplating one of a couple of ideas:
1. Buy a used projector that's good-e-nuff for DVD.
2. Buy a used RPTV that's good-e-nuff for DVD.
3. Buy a LCD-flat or a thin-line DLP or LCD RPTV, and duke it out to see whether the current gen of mid-end RPTVs are really going to deliver on HD formats
4. Just wait until Sony has Bravia-inspired mid-end that'll play the HD what-have-you

1080p is progressive???
There is a huge visual difference between 720 and 1080 sets. At your local store they may look the same because quite often they're not feeding them a full 1080 signal. Most of the stores around here only have a 480 video signal.

1080p
1080p means that the resolution of the picture is 1,920 vertical pixels by 1,080 horizontal pixels and p stands again for progressive scanning. This format works on the same principle as 720p; the only difference is that in this type there are more pixels and the resolution is better.

Yes. I was just wondering why you said 1080p is hype, but then to stick with progressive. Is it the 1080 resolution that you were told is hype or the I vs. P format???
<--- Intimate with the formats. Used to work in broadcast TV before transitioning to video games.

I was led to believe the 1080P hype is just that..hype and up-sell... Stick with a progressive scan model and side by side you cant tell the difference in a blind test....well of course you would be blind and would not be able to tell.

I thought P was progressive ?
