If you ask an American over the age of 40 "where were you when Armstrong stepped on the moon?" they'll know. While that's true for Canadians too, there's another question you can ask them... "where were you when Henderson scored?" To a one they will know exactly where they were.

I was in the school cafeteria where the school had set up TV's. There were others in different classrooms but I wanted to be with the big group. Offices and retail business were closed. Churches, schools, restaurants and bars all had TVs on and were packed. It was a school day but *nobody* expected anyone to study.

I found this clip rummaging around in the CBC archives. It's about the goal.

The setting is after Canada fights back from a 5-3 deficit to tie the game 5-5 and it's in game eight. It's the dying minutes of the 3rd period.

Don't bother watching any more than the first third. When they start interviewing eveyone it's drag... except for the last 10 seconds when some guy shouts, "God was on our side... God is Canadian!"

Hey there's a great Foster Hewitt Clip in the archives from a 1942 Toronto/Detroit game. You get to hear him say, "He shoots HE SCORES!". (Leaf goal of course )
