Yes and no. Serious fans will resume their watching habits; though I suspect the NHL will have many of the lingering effects that MLB has had - decreased attendance, decreased merchandise sales, lingering distrust of owners and players, etc.

In addition...

One of the things that really pisses me off with the ownership is how short sighted they are when it comes to "fan retention". A lot of the owners (via Bettman) have said "We lose more money if we play this season than if we lock out the players". But what happens when teams with 60-80% attendance are suddenly at 50-60% because so many fans have found other ways to spend their entertainment dollars? Things won't be so rosy, even with a salary cap, if that happens. Very short sighted.
