I'm very surprised HitchCOCK didn't get canned the day after Philly crapped out of the playoffs last season.

Why? Other than the goalie debacle (which was only half his fault) What was he to blame for? Clarkie and Snyder are responsible for this slow team of goons. They insist on holding on to the Broad Street Bully mentality (its what we want in Philly) All the meanwhile the game has past us by

It happened last season for Marc Crawford when Vancouver missed the playoffs for the first time since the 90's. It happened to Brian Burke when Toronto missed the playoffs as well. And it happened to Brian Murray when Los Angeles shat the bed too.
When Philly (who was a strong team last season) got swept in the first round, many speculated that Clarke would announce the end of Hitch's tenuer (sp?) with the club before the start of the second round. Obviously that didn't happen. They gave him a chance to redeam himself, but that didn't happen. Whether it was due to bad coaching, lack of enthusiasm from his players or just a string of bad luck... the coach always takes the fall.
So in response (finally
), the only thing he was to blame for was being in a high-risk job where job stability is like walking a tightrope.

Yes, ultimatly it comes down to the GM who is responsible for for the team, but the coach's always take the hit. That's what I meant when I said I'm surprised he didn't get canned last season. If he's got a team of tough-guys, that's the GM's call, but when a normally strong team misses the playoffs, or gets bumped out first round, the coach will most always take the fall for the GM.

The part I dont get is they gave Hitch a contract extension like 3 weeks ago!
What changed on his hockey coaching resume in 3 weeks?
I stand by my statement....Snyder needs to fire himself!

I think getting rid of Hitch was a big mistake, but you cant fire 30 slow players.
